October 11 is a very special day for us at LovetreeCo. It is a day set aside to honor girls and work to improve their lives. This is very close to our hearts because our focus is just that! International Day of the Girl was first recognized in 2011 by the United Nations general assembly to raise awareness of the gender inequality of young women worldwide.

The theme for this year is Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress: What Counts for Girls. And the UN website says it best

“When we invest in girls’ health, safety, education and rights – in times of peace and crisis – we empower them to reach for their dreams and build better lives for themselves and their communities.”

At the Khusi Hona Lotus Center, we strive to create a clean, safe and fun learning environment for our young women. Currently we teach jewelry making and tailoring and have plans to expand our trainings with computer classes, english courses and other studies.
